Woman in Barn Struggling with DepressionA more simplified and meaningful definition of depression is:  Anger Turned Inward.  We have often learned to not express our anger.  Those around us don't like to see it and up to now, we have not been aware of constructive ways to express our anger.

Anger is a protective shell around an emotional hurt.  When we feel anger, an emotional hurt has been activated.  To deal with this in a healthy way, we need first to have constructive ways to express the anger and after that, be able to work with the underlying hurt.

Effective Depression Treatment assists us through this process.

Depression Treatment at the Emotional Level

Effective Depression Treatment at the Emotional Level (what we feel) starts with giving the Anger a voice.  We need to have constructive ways to express the feeling of Anger.  Once this has been accomplished, then we are able to access the underlying Emotional Hurt that the anger was protecting.  Evidenced based methods of working with the Hurt are used to begin to heal the Hurt.

When the Anger is given an outlet and the Hurt is given the attention it needs, the depression disappears.

Depression Treatment at the Mental Level

Once the Emotional Level has been addressed we can then continue with Depression Treatment at the Mental Level (what we think and believe).

At this level, we will work with how we have been judging the situation and see if we can release these judgments.  We will also work with the underlying rules about how we think life should be and see if we can adjust them going forward into something that works better for us.
